Elaphiti islands
09:00, 10:00 | 8 | 8h | Lokrum, Koločep, Lopud, Šipan
Meeting point: Cavtat, Mlini, Srebreno, Dubrovnik Old City
Itinerary:
Sail from Cavtat and admire the panorama of Cavtat bay, Župa bay and Supetar island - uninhabited island in Cavtat bay, often called a Robinson Crusoe island. On the islet on January 20, 1431, the first stone house was built to accommodate the plague patients. This was the first facility built specifically for this purpose, the first Dubrovnik infirmary built in the Republic of Dubrovnik.
We head next to Betina cave. Betina Cave is a cave with a pebble beach, located close to the Dubrovnik old town, near the Scheherazade Villa. On the beach you can find complete peace and quiet because the beach can be reached only by sea, which is one of the reasons why there are not a lot of swimmers. We next head to the island of Lokrum. Lokrum is a beautiful uninhabited island in front of Dubrovnik. A must see in this area. Hike anywhere on the island, explore the fort and the monastery, see Game of Thrones throne, swim, cliff jump into the sea or just walk around and enjoy the nature. We will enter the Lokrum cave by boat. On our way to Koločep, you get to see the panorama of the Dubrovnik city walls and the old harbor from the sea. A unique experience with a slow ride perfect for taking some photographs.
The Elaphiti islands are an archipelago situated close to – and slightly northwest of – Dubrovnik. Islands offer an unbelievable combination of rich history, hidden sea caves, untouched nature, sandy beaches and island serenity. Swim, sunbathe, enjoy sea rock jumping, snorkeling and more. There are actually six islands in the archipelago, not including any small islets, although the three main ones to visit and stay on are Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan. Two of the three islands, Kolocep and Lopud, are entirely car-free, which means they’re an excellent place to base yourself on if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The islands get their name from the Greek word elafos, meaning deer; in ancient times the islands were apparently home to a large deer population. The islands are particularly famous as the most skilful mariners came from here.
Next stop is the Blue cave on Koločep island. The boat is equipped with snorkeling gear so you can enjoy underwater beauty and enter inside of the cave. Colour of the sea is blue and you can stand on your feet inside. If you are feeling adventures, this is a great place for cliff jumping.
Afterwards, we continue to the island of Lopud, second of the Elaphiti islands. There are a few sights on the island, including a number of churches from the 15th and 16th centuries. The remains of the Rector’s Palace and the ruins of a Fortress are worth a peek; there’s also a Franciscan Monastery that overlooks the village of Lopud which was built in the 15th century. Enjoy sunbathing on the sandy beach of Sunj, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the whole country. Ideal place for children, a fantastic sandy beach with a lot of shallow waters. After swimming and sunbathing explore the island on foot.
